College of Science Dean Publishes Research on Heavy Metal Contamination in Drinking Water

Back to News
In an effort to advance scientific research and academic achievement, Dr. Muslim Mohammed Mousa, Dean of the College of Science at the University of Cordoba, has published a scientific research paper entitled:

“Assessment of Heavy Metal Pollution in Drinking Water Sources and Its Environmental Implications in Contaminated Aquatic Areas”

The paper was published in the Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology & Fisheries, a scientific journal indexed in Scopus, with a reported CiteScore of 1.3.

The study, which involved 120 participants, investigated heavy metal contamination in drinking water sources and examined its relationship with oxidative stress and glycemic control in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

The findings indicated elevated heavy metal levels among residents of more heavily polluted areas, accompanied by increased oxidative stress markers and reduced antioxidant activity. These findings suggest a potential association between environmental pollution and impaired blood glucose control.

This scientific contribution reflects the University of Cordoba’s commitment to supporting high-quality research and encouraging studies that address environmental and health challenges, advance scientific knowledge, and serve the community.
